Campaign group Campra criticises total overnight parking bans for campervans and motorhomes in popular UK tourist areas, calling them counterproductive and harmful to local economies

Several local authorities across the UK have introduced or are considering blanket bans on overnight parking for campervans and motorhomes at popular tourist hotspots. A permanent ban is already in place on the North Yorkshire coast, with similar measures planned in Cornwall and under consideration at Loch Lomond and the Falls of Falloch in Scotland.

The Campaign for Real Aires (Campra) has labelled these restrictions as 'short-sighted' and 'counterproductive'. The group argues that such bans are unnecessary with adequate infrastructure and cause economic and environmental damage. As an alternative, Campra proposes creating dedicated parking areas modelled on European aires.

A Campra survey of 6,731 motorhome owners found that 88% are dissatisfied with the availability of overnight parking in desirable locations. The group cites research suggesting that introducing such sites would encourage visits to new areas and off-peak spending, benefiting local businesses. There are over 500,000 such vehicles registered in the UK.

Council rejects move to drop overnight parking at John Jenkins stadium

Portsmouth City Council's planning committee has refused an application to remove a condition requiring 80 overnight parking spaces for residents at the John Jenkins Stadium site. The charity Pompey in the Community, which runs the site, stated it cannot afford the estimated £200,000 scheme, potentially delaying the clubhouse completion. Local residents opposed the removal, citing severe parking shortages in Baffins, where 8,000–9,000 cars compete for 6,000–7,500 spaces.

Retiree faced threats and harassment over park home sale

A North Yorkshire retiree was mis-sold a holiday home as a permanent residence and subsequently subjected to a 'relentless campaign of harassment' by park staff, according to local MP Alison Hume. The man was forced to sell the home at a 60% loss, with the park reselling it four days later for a substantial profit. In response, the UK government is exploring measures to strengthen buyer protections, including regulation of the 10% resale commission and pitch fee increases.
