Spain's traffic authority DGT has approved an amendment to traffic rules allowing caravans to park anywhere cars are allowed, provided no tables, chairs, or awnings are set out. This makes municipal bans on overnight parking illegal.
However, municipalities such as Llanes in Asturias continue to issue fines up to 500 euros, forcing owners to challenge them in court. In Gijón, barriers have been installed near El Molinón stadium, restricting motorhome parking. Owners say the city should provide designated areas instead of tightening rules. Locals and tourists note that current policy does not solve the problem but only creates inconvenience.
