A ban on overnight campervan parking on the North Yorkshire coast has been extended to residential areas of Scarborough after complaints from residents that the problem was being displaced. The new experimental ban applies year-round from 11 pm to 7 am on Belvedere Road, Holbeck Road, Esplanade Crescent and Sea Cliff Road.
Consultations will run until 22 February 2027. A previous similar ban in Cayton Bay was lifted due to vandalism of signs. Authorities say they are forced to protect residents from the behaviour of some campervan owners. Local councillor Maeve believes that instead of a ban, dedicated overnight areas for campervans should have been created. Critics call the expansion a 'missed opportunity', noting that the council has not created legal overnight spots.
