The owners of Wharfe Camp in Kettlewell have submitted a new application to allow small campervans on the site's ten existing camping pitches, which are currently restricted to tents. An earlier application was withdrawn in October 2025 after planning officers indicated it would not be recommended for approval over concerns about the visual impact of campervans on the national park landscape. The applicants now argue that the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority's new local plan for 2025 to 2040 takes a more sympathetic approach towards smaller campervans and distinguishes them from larger motorhomes and touring caravans. Vehicles would be limited to a maximum length of 5.3 metres, smaller than the six-metre definition of a campervan used in planning policy. No additional pitches are proposed, and the application will be considered by the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority.
