Audun Matre, head of the Haugaland fire service, warns about fire risks in caravans and motorhomes. Every year, Norway sees 60–70 fires in such vehicles. Main causes are faulty gas hoses, improper grill use, and failure to keep distance between trailers. Matre recommends a four-meter rule between trailers, checking gas hose expiry dates, and carrying a portable smoke detector.
The Lofoten fire service has banned camping under fish drying racks in Henningsvær due to high fire risk. Last year, during the Trevarefest festival, about 50 motorhomes and as many tents were parked under the racks, violating the four-meter safe distance requirement. Authorities are considering similar restrictions for wild camping elsewhere in Lofoten.
