Penalties for staying overnight outside official campsites are tightening across Europe. Greece has enforced Law 5170/2025 since January 2025, banning tents on beaches, near forests, and at archaeological sites, with fines up to 3,000 euros or three months in prison. France imposes fines up to 1,500 euros, Spain from 30 to 3,000 euros, Italy up to 500 euros, and Croatia 300 euros. In Germany, fines range from 15 to 5,000 euros depending on the state and vehicle type.
