In Cologne, residents of the Nippes, Sülz and Riehl districts are complaining about a shortage of parking spaces because motorhomes have been parked on the streets for weeks. One vehicle bore a note asking: 'Why is a motorhome called mobile if it always stands still?'
Over the past five years, the number of registered motorhomes in the city has increased by 65%, reaching nearly 10,100 units in 2025. Legally, motorhome owners are not breaking any rules as long as they do not obstruct traffic. Authorities are considering installing 'cars only' signs but fear this will merely shift the problem to neighbouring districts.
