Rising hotel and flight costs are driving European families toward van-life. Converted vans now offer comfort comparable to expensive caravans at a fraction of the price. Camping in Croatia becomes more expensive than in Switzerland

According to the 2026 price analysis by PiNCAMP (ADAC), the average cost per night at a campsite in Croatia during the peak summer season has reached €73, making it the most expensive among the countries surveyed. The calculation is based on a pitch for a motorhome or caravan with a tow vehicle for two adults and one child up to 10 years old.

Slovak law permits wild camping only above 1000 meters altitude and requires strict adherence to environmental rules.

The company, which has been building towable caravans since 1958, will shift focus entirely to motorhomes and campervans. The decision is driven by a sustained decline in demand for caravans and the growing popularity of self-propelled models. Bürstner will continue to supply spare parts and service for existing caravans.
