On Friday, July 24, 2026, around noon, a passenger car and a caravan collided in the Ovčiarsko tunnel on the D1 motorway near Dolný Hričov (Žilina Region). One person sustained injuries.
Firefighters from Bytča and Žilina provided first aid to the injured, prevented the vehicles from catching fire, helped load one of the vehicles onto a tow truck, and cleared the roadway. During the operation, the tunnel toward Žilina was completely closed; after several tens of minutes, one lane was reopened. Rescue services and police also attended the scene.
