Cliff House Holiday Park on the Suffolk coast reopened on Friday at 10:00 after being closed due to a wildfire that started on 29 July near the RSPB Minsmere reserve. The fire spread across Dunwich Heath, affecting 150 hectares, and came within 15 metres of the park's boundary.
Owner Timothy Hay said damage is still being assessed, but food from 110 freezers had to be discarded due to a two-week power outage. The fire was a major incident for Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service, involving all 600 firefighters. Although the major incident was declared over on 10 August, the fire remains active.
The road will be closed just past the park entrance, and beach access is temporarily restricted for safety checks.
