In Brief

In Château-Larcher, a motorhome area generated €12,000, with 60% funding local heritage restoration. In Gard, a site with a pool joined the RVR network. A new area is planned in Le Pays Roannais.

Revenue from motorhome area funds heritage

In the commune of Château-Larcher (Vienne), a motorhome area recognized as one of the best in France is managed by a volunteer association. In 2025, it generated €12,000 in revenue, of which €7,200 (60%) stays with the association and is used for information panels at monuments and restoration of local heritage. The area recorded 1,207 overnight stays, 31% of which were by foreign tourists from 22 countries.

New site joins RVR network

The private Domaine de Bagard site in Sauve (Gard) became the 11th member of the RVR network. It offers 45 pitches on 11 hectares, a pool, a gym, and other services for €23 per night. The RVR network brings together sites meeting criteria for greening, waste sorting, and minimal soil intervention.

Converting a caravan into a guest room risks a heavy fine

Using a caravan as a permanent guest room on a property may be classified as illegal construction. Under French law, if the caravan loses mobility (wheels removed, placed on a concrete base) and is used for more than three months a year, it is treated as a building. The fine for such a violation can reach €90,000, and the court may order demolition with a daily penalty of up to €500 for non-compliance.
