In Brief

From July 2026, the Caravanserei hotel in Oranienburg-Schmachtenhagen will offer 30 tiny houses as guest rooms. Meanwhile, a company from Blankenburg (Harz) is launching its own rental model. Development is hampered by land-use disputes and infrastructure issues.

In Oranienburg-Schmachtenhagen (Brandenburg), the Caravanserei project is launching: from July 2026, 30 tiny houses will be rented out as hotel rooms. Production of one house takes 10–12 weeks, with three levels of completion available — from frame to turnkey. At the same time, the Eron Werk III factory in Gardelegen has opened, producing houses measuring 5.40×2.50 m.

New project in the Harz

A company from Blankenburg (Harz) has presented its own tiny house for rent. The model is aimed at tourists and landowners, and differs from standard shipping containers.

Hindering factors

The segment's growth is held back by uncertainty in land law and infrastructure disputes: in Paderborn, a zone for tiny houses was refused, while in the USA neighbors filed a lawsuit over the smell from a chemical toilet.

Fate of homeless camper in Landsberg stirs public emotion

Residents of Landsberg are actively discussing the story of Wolfgang Vogl, who was forced to leave the parking lot at Waitzinger Wiese after an extended stay. A survey of police stations in Landsberg and Dießen found no significant issues with long-term campers, but finding a place for permanent residence in a motorhome is difficult. At campsites in Pitzling and Utting, all 160 and 165 long-term pitches are occupied, with waiting lists of 15 and 70 people respectively. According to traffic regulations, a stationary inhabited vehicle is not considered a road user, and only one night is allowed to restore driving fitness.
