County Donegal in Ireland is advancing several initiatives to boost tourism infrastructure for caravan, campervan, and glamping enthusiasts.
Survey and information hub
Donegal County Council has launched a public consultation survey on the development of the caravan and campervan sector. The study, conducted by KPMG Future Analytics, runs until 21 May 2021 and will assess current infrastructure and development opportunities within the legal framework. Based on the study's recommendations, the council is also creating a web page with a map on the GoVisitDonegal website, providing tourists with information on accommodation, service points, and facilities. The initiative began implementation this summer.
New projects
A new camping site is under consideration, with a planning application for 12 glamping pods, 32 campervan pitches, tennis courts, and sanitary facilities. Separately, Donegal Boardwalk Resort in Carrigart has received planning permission from Donegal County Council for an expansion. The plans include 10 glamping pods, 5 tent pitches, 10 campervan pitches, a new reception, shop, café, and sanitary facilities. The permission was granted with 15 conditions.
