New proposals would turn the Blackpool Central site, earmarked for a 20,000-seat arena, into a dedicated motorhome and campervan stopover (Aire). The idea is backed by the CAMpRA campaign group and councillor Julie Sloman. Supporters say motorhomes are self-contained, so no toilet blocks or other facilities would be needed. The site is part of a £300 million multi-phase leisure and regeneration scheme led by Blackpool Council, which expects to name an investor-developer in the New Year. The council said it is exploring all options for the site while marketing for a large-scale leisure investor continues.
