From August 2026, overnight stays on riverbanks, in primary rainforest and in nature reserves in Xishuangbanna are prohibited. Only three types of sites are legal: official commercial campsites (70–120 yuan per day), motorhome stopovers at motorway service areas (free to 30 yuan) and municipal parking areas for motorhomes (30 yuan per vehicle per day). Measurements show daytime temperatures of 22–24 °C in Mengyuan rainforest, 20–22 °C at night in Menghai tea mountains, and up to 33 °C in Jinghong city during the day, falling to about 22 °C at night. The minimum budget for a seven-day camping trip is 1,060 yuan per person, including campsite fees, food, transport and entrance tickets. Families with children are estimated at 5,000–8,000 yuan per person, nature explorers at 3,000–5,000 yuan.
