Indonesian Retired Couple to Drive Campervan from Indonesia to Europe

Indriati, 61, a doctor from South Tangerang, closed her private practice to join her husband Teuku Faisal Laksamana on a round-the-world trip in a camper van. The couple started traveling in February 2022, covering Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Laos, and now plan an overland route to Europe.

Sidenreng Rappang Regent Syaharuddin Alrif received a delegation from the Camper Van Indonesia South Celebes community at his official residence in Sidrap on July 5, 2026. The meeting focused on strengthening ties and discussing camper van-based tourism development in the district. The regent encouraged participants to explore Sidrap's natural attractions. The visit coincided with the community's sixth anniversary celebration held the previous day in the Puncak Bila area.

In July 2026, the Puncak Bila nature park in Sidrap, South Sulawesi, will host the 27th anniversary of the Camper Van Indonesia South Celebes community. Hundreds of camper vans are expected to gather for the event. Activities include camping, bonfires, entertainment, and a cleanup campaign (#BawaPulangSampahTa). The event aims to boost local tourism and the economy.

Indonesia's PM 45 Tahun 2023 regulates campervan modifications, permitting only conversions of goods vehicles with a maximum gross weight of 5,500 kg. Dimensional changes (height, length, width) must stay within government tolerances. Modifications must be carried out by certified workshops, followed by a type test to ensure roadworthiness and legal compliance.

Bupati (regent) of Batang Hari, Muhammad Fadhil Arief, officially opened the 5th Camping Bareng Se-Sumatera event organized by Campervan Indonesia at Taman Tapah Malenggang. The two-day gathering on June 27–28, 2026, attracted hundreds of Campervan Indonesia members from across the country. The event aimed to strengthen fellowship among campervan enthusiasts, share experiences, and expand community networks. The regent expressed hope that the event would boost local tourism and the economy.

T Faisal Laksamana (65) and Dr. Indriati (61) from Padangsidimpuan plan a journey to Mecca in their modified 2022 Toyota Voxy campervan. The route covers Southeast Asia, China, Central Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, starting in July 2026. The couple has previously explored over 30 Indonesian provinces and 8 Southeast Asian countries.
