Motorhome campsite in Bijie hosted 1,300 tourists over summer

China's State Council forwarded measures to boost motorhome consumption, drafted by ten departments including the National Financial Regulatory Administration. The document calls for improving financial products and services, reducing operating costs for motorhome rental and campground operators, and directing insurers to develop policies covering various consumption scenarios, including baggage and onboard property insurance, with reasonably set premiums. It also aims to improve the motorhome insurance service system and enhance emergency rescue and rapid claims settlement.

The 2026 Yangtze River Delta Motorhome Rally and Sports Leisure Experience Season (Hanshan stop) took place from September 18 to 20, with 100 motorhomes starting from Lingjiatan Cultural and Creative Block, passing through Yuncao Ancient Town, Dayutan Wetland Park, and Baochanshan Scenic Area, ending at Liuhe Stone Tribe, covering a 99-km route. Co-organized by the sports bureaus of Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui, the event has been held for 12 sessions since 2014, with the first motorhome rally held in Anqing in 2022. Hanshan stop featured side events such as a short-video contest and a sports-themed carnival, along with local food and product markets, aiming to boost sports and cultural tourism and convert event traffic into consumer spending.

A retiree surnamed Ding from Shenyang, after 40 years at a state-owned enterprise, is travelling north across China in a converted motorhome with his wife. At a campground in the Wudalianchi scenic area in Heilongjiang Province, staff connected a pipeline to the Wudalianchi mineral water source and provided water free of charge. The local culture and tourism department organised free performances at the campground, including Russian songs and dances, and volunteer Liu Fenghai screened the classic film 'Reconnaissance Across the Yangtze'.

On the morning of September 19, the 2026 Yangtze River Delta Motorhome Rally and the 13th Yangtze River Delta Sports & Leisure Season kicked off at the Lingjiatan National Archaeological Site Park in Hanshan, Anhui. Over 100 motorhomes and 200 participants from across the country gathered for the event, which features a motorhome parade and cultural tourism experiences, aiming to promote integrated sports and cultural tourism development in the region.

In Jining District of Ulanqab, Inner Mongolia, five standardized motorhome campsites have been optimized, providing 1,002 parking spaces, 41 camping pitches and 122 charging piles, with water, sewage and sanitation facilities fully upgraded. The campsite at the east hall of the exhibition center, previously without utilities, was connected to water and electricity in early July and completed in early August; it now accommodates 70 motorhomes. During the peak season from mid-June to early September, visitors spend about 10,000 yuan per month. Authorities plan to develop autumn-winter tourism, including ice and snow sports, red tourism and hot springs.

Chinese outlet Sina published a comparison of three loop routes for a 7-day summer camper trip. The Hulunbuir route (about 1,200 km, averaging 200 km per day, 22°C) is recommended for families with children; the Ili route (about 900 km) is for photographers and stargazers, though the Duku Highway may see congestion in peak season; the Qinghai-Gansu route (over 1,400 km, averaging 200 km per day) suits those interested in culture and geography. Class B camper rental costs 800–1,200 yuan per day, with minimum expenses from 4,000 yuan per person. Campsite fees range from 20–150 yuan per night, and fuel and toll costs range from 1,200–2,500 yuan depending on the route. For a family of two adults and one child, total costs are estimated at 10,000–12,000 yuan.
