According to satellite data from the European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS), the area burned in Europe this year is the second-largest on record. The Consumer Advice Centre of North Rhine-Westphalia advises travellers in motorhomes and caravans to check their route for fire risk, clarify insurance coverage before departure, and keep documents, cash and medication within reach in case of evacuation. It notes that mandatory third-party liability insurance covers only damage to others, while personal belongings in a camper are often not protected by household contents insurance.
