Rising fuel prices are prompting French motorhome owners to change their travel habits. They are reducing distances and increasingly choosing domestic destinations. For instance, a couple from Saint-Valery-sur-Somme drives only 160 km to their holiday spot.
Renting motorhomes between private individuals is becoming more popular. The Wikicampers app, created by Marion Voiret, has over 500,000 users. Weekend rentals cost about 300 euros, weekly rentals 800 euros. A new motorhome costs on average 80,000 euros, while a used one is half that price.
The self-sufficiency of a motorhome helps save on accommodation and food, but finding free overnight spots is harder due to parking restrictions. Many therefore prefer campsites, where a night with electricity costs around 40 euros.
