Camping tourist numbers in Luxembourg up 50% since 2019

Luxembourg's Minister of Tourism Lex Delles presented the certificate confirming the fourth star of the Camping de la route du Vin in Grevenmacher. The award was handed over to representatives of the local tourism syndicate (SITG) in the presence of Anita Kramer from the association Camprilux. The ceremony highlighted the town's tourist attractions and the campsite's modern amenities, including air-conditioned pods and loggias.

The P+R parking lot in Kockelscheuer, intended only for cars, has become a site for unauthorized motorhome parking. Local resident Philipp reports seeing about twenty motorhomes daily, some staying for weeks. Due to lack of facilities, visitors relieve themselves in the nearby forest, leaving used toilet paper and hygiene items, and also light illegal barbecues despite the drought. The City of Luxembourg acknowledges the issue and plans to review the situation in September to decide on measures.

Between 20 and 30 campers are said to be parked daily on a parking lot in Kockelscheuer. Because there are no toilets, some leave their waste in the adjacent forest. A local resident, Philipp, reported the issue to the city, but no measures have been taken yet. The city of Luxembourg acknowledges the problem and is considering options, including height restrictions or a camper ban.

A car towing a caravan caught fire on the A3 motorway near the France-Luxembourg border on Wednesday afternoon. Firefighters arrived around 4:20 p.m., and the emergency lane was blocked. No injuries were reported, according to CGDIS.

Visit Luxembourg has published a list of campsites and motorhome stops across the country. Among them is the newly reopened Camping Toodlermillen on the Sauer river, now managed by youth organisations after a two-year closure. The site offers 120 pitches for tents and caravans, three for motorhomes, and zones for families and youth groups. In the Müllerthal region, Camping Martbusch provides 200 pitches, including spaces for motorhomes and camper vans, plus rental lodges. Near Luxembourg City, Camping Kockelscheuer has 161 pitches for tents, caravans, and motorhomes, with the city centre reachable by bus or tram.

The bistro at the Route du Vin campsite in Grevenmacher, closed for several weeks due to illness, may reopen on Friday. The Syndicat d'initiative has found an operator for the rest of the season — the owner of a restaurant in Mertert. Talks are also underway for the bistro at Kulturhuef, closed since December, but no reopening date has been set.
