Rise of camper van travel in Bulgaria

Experts from the Varna Regional Administration, the Environmental Inspectorate and the Forestry Agency inspected the Kara Dere area for illegally placed caravans. Dozens of caravans were found on dunes, the beach and surrounding green areas. Inspectors issued fines; some owners removed license plates to avoid identification. Further checks are planned. Parking within 500 meters of the coast is prohibited, with fines up to 500 leva.

A charity concert will be held on July 25 in the Sofia village of Marchaevo to support a family whose restaurant camper was destroyed by arson on July 14. The family had invested all savings into the camper to enable their disabled son to work and socialize. In the Meden Rudnik district of Burgas, an SUV towing a caravan failed to give way to a motorcyclist, resulting in a heavy collision. The motorcycle remained on the roadway, with debris scattered across the intersection. Police are on site investigating and managing traffic. No official update on the motorcyclist's condition has been released yet.

Investor D. Roshkov from Blagoevgrad plans to build a campsite in the village of Zlatolist, near the Church of St. George where St. Stoyna once lived. The 11,001 sq m site will accommodate 10 motorhomes and caravans, a tent area, 7–8 gazebos, a sports field and a playground. Water will be supplied from a private borehole 9–10 metres deep. The project has received a positive opinion from the Basin Directorate and an assessment from RIOSV – Blagoevgrad on compatibility with Natura 2000 protected zones.

The Tsarevo Municipality reports a rise in attempts by motorhomes and cars to reach wild beaches near Sinemorets via forest roads. Such actions are prohibited under the Protected Areas Act. The restriction applies to the protected areas 'Veleka River Mouth' and 'Silistar', including Lipite Beach. Motor vehicles, including motorhomes, are not allowed on forest and unauthorized roads. Lighting fires is also banned. The measures aim to protect natural habitats.
