Brazilian couple Rosilene Souza and Valmir Nilto, traveling in a motorhome, reached Macapá, the capital of Amapá state, completing a trip from Santarém (Pará). This is the 23rd state they have visited. The journey took three days, including a ferry crossing and a stretch of road through the Amazon rainforest.
Amapá is the only Brazilian state without direct road connection to the rest of the country. The couple, who retired in 2023, started their journey from the south, in Chuí, and spent over 7 months traveling through South America, including Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, and Venezuela.
The most challenging section was the road between the Paru River and Monte Dourado in Pará state, with mud, sand, and no signal. On the BR-156 highway between Laranjal do Jari and Macapá, they encountered potholes. The couple plans to visit tourist spots in Amapá and share their experience on social media to attract other travelers, despite the high cost of ferries.
