China's interest in RVs is growing alongside the rise of self-driving tourism and government backing. In October 2015, the State Council announced measures to simplify driver's license management for motorhomes and allocate land for campsites. According to the China Camping and RV Association, in 2014 the country had about 21,000 RVs and 200 campsites, compared to 6.97 million and 26,000 in Europe. By 2020, a network of 2,000 campsites is planned. The average rental occupancy rate is around 20%, with investments recouped in three years.
