Camping tourism in Sauerland has evolved from a trend into a permanent fixture, according to tourism experts. Demand is particularly high at campsites near the region's lakes, where visitors appreciate the chance to cool off quickly in the water. The region is actively expanding motorhome infrastructure: more towns and municipalities are offering equipped parking spaces with electricity and services. As of January 1, 2026, 3,739 motorhomes were registered in the Hochsauerland district, an increase of over 200 from the previous year, while across North Rhine-Westphalia the motorhome fleet grew by 7% to 211,800 units.
