Police resume motorhome weighing campaign ahead of camping season

Austrian company Action Mobil has presented the Desert Challenger motorhome, built on the chassis of a former military missile transporter MAN KAT 1 A1 8x8. The 12-meter long, 30-ton model features two slide-out sections, a professional kitchen, a granite bathroom, and tanks holding 2500 liters of diesel and 2400 liters of water.

A mechanic was injured after being pinned under a motorhome at a vehicle repair shop in Ergoldsbach (Landshut district). The 34-year-old was performing repair work when a colleague accidentally lowered a hydraulic jack. The employee who activated the mechanism is now under investigation for negligent bodily injury.

A technical inspection of the motorhome is required before the season starts after winter storage. Key steps include body cleaning, checking the water system, tires, brakes, fluids, battery, electrical equipment, and gas installation. For motorhomes up to 3.5 tons, the first inspection is due after 36 months, then every 24 months.

Italian company Caracol AM, in collaboration with Swiss LG Project Management, presented a motorhome entirely printed by an industrial robot in 92 hours. The structure, over 4 meters long, is made from recycled plastic and weighs 660 kg, significantly faster than traditional production which takes about three months. The presentation took place at the Formnext trade fair in Frankfurt.

Four new awning systems for compact camper vans have been introduced, designed to maintain parking garage compatibility. The systems include the support-free Camper & Go Flex Line weighing from 1.5 kg, the compact cassette awning Fiamma F43van, the inflatable StuffBubble weighing about 2 kg, and the 270-degree Vickywood Branch awning for all-around protection.

Hyundai has unveiled the Staria Camper Concept to explore market potential for electric campers. The concept features a pop-up roof, 520W solar panel, and claimed 400 km WLTP range, though production has not been confirmed.
