According to the state statistical office, the number of overnight stays at campsites in Saxony increased from 636,000 in 2015 to almost 1.1 million in 2025. The number of campsites remained nearly unchanged: 104 in 2015 and 107 in 2025. The region also has about 150 motorhome parking areas.
The season runs from April to October, but some sites, such as those at Lake Kulkwitzer See in Leipzig, have begun experimenting with winter camping. The share of camping overnight stays in Saxony's total tourist overnight stays is 5.6%, below the German average of 9.0%. Regional authorities plan to develop this sector as part of a tourism master plan, focusing on quality.
According to ADAC, the average cost of a night in Saxony in the 2026 high season is 39 euros for a family of two adults and one child, below the national average of 41 euros.
