Lower Saxony ranks second in Germany's best camping sites ranking. Interest is growing in smaller locations such as Campingplatz 'Rote Schleuse' and Stellplatz 'Westermoor'. More tourists are also choosing farm stays for their simplicity: meadows, orchards, and quiet. For farmers, this trend offers a chance to use free yard areas as parking spots.

New campsite with artificial lake under construction in Lower Saxony

The 'Camping am Hasetal' campsite, spanning 7.5 hectares, is scheduled to open in Meppen-Backemude by spring 2026. The site will feature an artificially created lake, and each pitch for motorhomes, caravans, or tents will include a private bathroom. Prior to construction, archaeologists discovered settlement traces on the grounds dating from the Neolithic period to the early Middle Ages.

Camping on the Lower Saxony coast: savings for tourists

According to an ADAC analysis, the average cost of camping on the Lower Saxony coast is €42 per night for a family of two adults and one child. This is significantly lower than in Croatia (€77), Italy (€73), or Spain (€72). The price difference with Croatian campsites reaches €242 per week. German seaside campsites have above-average quality (3.8 stars on the ADAC scale), and prices remain stable due to even demand distribution across the country.
