Bijie develops RV camping to boost summer tourism in Guizhou

At the Shanghai RV & Camping Expo held August 22–24, the Wanaka camper built on the BYD T5DM Pro Max chassis was presented. The vehicle uses a hybrid system where a 1.5-liter turbo engine acts as a generator, with electric drive for propulsion. Total battery capacity is about 70 kWh, providing an electric range of 150 km and a combined range of up to 1100 km. Inside, the camper features a slide-out living area seating six, two sleeping areas, a kitchen with refrigerator and microwave, a toilet with electric macerator, a 400-liter fresh water tank, solar panels, and dual inverters.

In the Bailidujuan area of Bijie City, Guizhou Province, authorities are developing motorhome campsites, leveraging the region's good ecology and unique mountain climate. This promotes summer retreat and long-stay tourism, boosting local incomes and regional economic vitality.

On August 9, 2026, the four-day Fourth China RV Family Happiness Festival concluded at the Tianbao Nasutu Grassland Tourist Resort in Zhangbei, Hebei Province. The event attracted 437 motorhomes from 27 provinces and cities across China, with 1,311 participants ranging in age from 3 to 81 years. Organizers included RV World, 21st Century RV, and RV Family. The festival featured industry forums on campground infrastructure and tourism route development, along with entertainment such as concerts, fireworks, and equestrian performances.

In the first half of 2024, motorhome exports from Rongcheng (Shandong Province) reached 1.06 billion yuan, up 21% year-on-year, while domestic sales grew by over 40%. Manufacturer Kangpaisi New Energy Vehicle has orders booked through the end of the year. During the summer season, motorhome rental occupancy in popular cities exceeded 70%, and rental orders rose by more than 50%. In June, the Ministry of Commerce and other agencies issued measures to support the motorhome and camping industry, including improving road infrastructure and services.

In the Wumeng Mountains (Guizhou Province), RV campers from across China have gathered at a campsite. Authorities are developing summer tourism infrastructure, boosting local incomes and regional economy.

In summer 2026, China's cultural tourism subsidy of 450 million yuan makes motorhome travel more affordable. A route through Guizhou province is proposed: from Guiyang to the Baili Dujuan motorhome camp in Bijie, the largest in the country, with visits to Zhijin Cave and Wumeng Prairie. Camping costs 20 yuan per day, motorhome rental from 400 yuan. The route is about 500 km long, with daily drives not exceeding 2 hours.
