China's motorhome sales exceed 20,000 units for first time

China sold more than 20,000 self-propelled motorhomes in 2025, surpassing that threshold for the first time, according to a report by the Motor Homes Committee under the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers. Sales of camping vehicles for shorter trips rose 85.6 percent year on year, while sales of new-energy motorhomes for longer journeys surged 229 percent. In the first half of 2026, 12,153 self-propelled motorhomes were registered, up 32.6 percent year on year. Chinese authorities extended the permitted service life of rental motorhomes from 15 to 25 years and removed the mandatory scrappage age for small non-commercial motorhomes. The country now has more than 3,100 RV campsites, and Jiangsu Province plans 78 motorhome stops at expressway service areas.
