A traveller who purchased a field at auction in October for £167,000, tarmacked it and moved in caravans has been allowed to remain temporarily by Sevenoaks council. The enforcement notice ordering restoration of the land was challenged, and the court ruled that eviction would violate his and his family's human rights under the Human Rights Act and Equality Act.
The family has been granted a 56-day reprieve until June 2, during which they may live on the site. No further construction or utility connections are permitted. All caravans must be removed and the field restored to its original condition by August 10.
