New ITV inspection rules in Spain
The Spanish Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) has issued instruction PROT 2026/04, tightening technical inspection (ITV) rules for motorhomes and campers. According to source 2, motorhomes over 10 years old must undergo ITV annually, while campers over 10 years must be inspected every six months. Source 1 adds that motorhomes older than four years are inspected every two years until age ten, then annually, and campers over ten years every six months.
The tightening is driven by a nearly threefold increase in the number of such vehicles: from 48,000 in 2015 to almost 137,000 (sources 3, 4, 5).
Fines for illegal parking
Parking in unauthorized places, including with extended perimeters (e.g., with awnings), can result in fines of up to 5000 euros (sources 2, 5). General parking and camping rules remain unchanged (source 5).
