RV Caucus Event Highlights RVIA Priorities on Capitol Hill

Hundreds of RV spots inside Isla Blanca Park (Cameron County, Texas) are still a work in progress, according to KRGV. In a few weeks, Cameron County parks will open reservations for a small number of spots for the winter season. Work is currently underway at the RV area inside Isla Blanca Park. While there are still RVs at the park, hundreds of spots have been out of the picture. That’s sent some longtime RVers elsewhere and some of their business along with them. Channel 5 News spoke with Cameron County Parks and Recreation about the upgrades that started last year. “We’re doing a major infrastructure improvement project to the RV sites that are located inside of the gate. There are about 577 RV sites that we’re upgrading the electrical, the water and sewer. So, those are temporarily closed until the project is completed,” Cameron County Parks and Recreation Director Joe Vega said. Officials said last year the spots should reopen for the summer 2027 season.

Camp-let has introduced the Earth, a hybrid travel trailer that measures 10.6 feet in length, 5.3 feet in width, and weighs 595 pounds when towed, but expands to a living space up to 13 feet long, 18.8 feet wide, and 7.5 feet high. The base model, priced at about $14,593, accommodates four people; adding an annex and awning for additional capacity brings the total for a 10-person setup to roughly $21,981. With a minimum tow rating of 1,000 pounds, the trailer can be pulled by most pickups, SUVs, and even electric vehicles.

Landship Customs and Sandy Vans have unveiled the Wabi camper van, based on a 2026 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500. The vehicle features a slide-out bathroom disguised as a closet, a tilting solar roof, and a walkable tempered glass skylight. The price is approximately $390,000.

California-based Sprouting Sprocket Studio unveiled the Hütte Hut, a teardrop camper with suicide doors that open the entire side wall. The wooden body is made of marine okoumé plywood, with a canvas roof and aluminum frame. It measures 4.27 m long, 2.03 m wide, 1.8 m high, and weighs 408 kg. The standard configuration costs $63,900. The model never entered production.

Sunset Park RV has introduced the Sun Lite 14FD, the smallest travel trailer in its Sun Lite series. Measuring 5.1 meters in length, it sleeps three and includes a bed, dinette, kitchen, and wet bath. Prices range from $13,000 to $20,000 depending on options and region.

The Chevrolet 454 big-block V8, introduced in 1970 in the Chevelle SS LS6, continued production for heavy-duty trucks and motorhomes until 2000, when it was replaced by the Vortec 8100. Unlike other large V8s that ended after 1973, the 454 adapted to emissions regulations, gaining fuel injection and a hydraulic roller camshaft. It was used in models like the Safari Trek, Fleetwood Bounder, and Winnebago Chieftain.
