Nine Chinese ministries issue 17 measures to boost auto market

The Chinese government has launched a major initiative to stimulate domestic auto demand. On June 23, 2026, the Ministry of Commerce and eight other agencies issued two notices on auto distribution reform and aftermarket development. 40 cities were designated as pilot zones for tailored reforms. Tianjin will focus on tuning, classic cars, and motorsports; Shenyang (Liaoning) on used car trade; Yangzhou (Jiangsu) on the campervan and motorhome industry; Weinan (Shaanxi) on vehicle recycling. Nine agencies also released 17 measures to boost the aftermarket, including regulating tuning, supporting RV camping, and promoting motorsport events.

The model will feature Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) technology and be positioned as an MPV for light off-road use, targeting the growing vanlife market in China. The powertrain includes a 1.5-liter gasoline engine producing 101 hp and an electric motor delivering 208 hp, powered by a 21.1 kWh LFP battery. All-wheel drive is not available, and the estimated price ranges from 79,800 to 127,800 yuan.

On June 22, the Hainan Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology announced that the production of five types of special vehicles (fire trucks, motorhomes, ambulances, medical vehicles, and campers) is included in a pilot program for duty-free processing增值. No more than 15 companies registered in Hainan may participate, with mandatory ERP and video surveillance. A 'negative list' bans imports of passenger cars, SUVs, and vehicles priced above 90,000 yuan (excluding VAT).
