The UK Department for Transport (DfT) has responded to a petition with more than 11,000 signatures calling for standard category B licence holders to be allowed to drive motorhomes weighing up to 4,250 kg. Currently, the limit is 3,500 kg, which petitioners say restricts choice for many drivers.
In its response, the department said the potential benefits of such a change have not yet been assessed, and any future amendments would be subject to public consultation. Previously, in June 2025, the UK extended similar allowances to all electric vehicles up to 4,250 kg.
