The UK Department for Transport (DfT) has responded to a petition with more than 11,000 signatures calling for drivers with category B licences to be allowed to drive motorhomes weighing up to 4,250 kg (the current limit is 3,500 kg). The DfT said it keeps the rules under review but has not assessed the benefits of such a change. Any amendment would require public consultation and a full impact assessment.
The EU has already adopted a directive allowing heavier motorhomes on category B, subject to additional training or passing a test.
