The UK government has warned caravan owners about the need to register trailers weighing more than 750 kg before travelling abroad. Since August 2025, registration with the DVLA is mandatory for trips to EU countries, including France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Belgium.

Offenders face refusal of entry at the border, as well as a fine of up to £2,500 and three penalty points for missing registration or incorrect rear-view mirrors.
