Reykjavik terminates land lease agreement for caravans

The Reykjavik City Council at its meeting on Thursday decided to terminate the agreement with the Caravan Association for the use of approximately 3,900 square meters of land in Gufunes. The agreement had been signed only two months earlier. Council Chairman Einar Thorsteinsson stated that those who choose to live in caravans can make agreements with campsites, which are abundant in the southwestern part of the country. He argued that the agreement was pushed through without consultation with residents and stakeholders in Gufunes and without budget allocations, although city costs could reach up to 100 million ISK. Association treasurer Geirdís Hanna Kristjánsdóttir expressed disappointment and anger, noting that the decision was made without any discussion with caravan residents and that they are now forced to remain at the unsuitable site in Sævarhöfði, where they have lived for three years under unacceptable conditions.

Outbound offers four starter campers: Big One, Pathmaker, Classic, and Schoolie. The Big One provides nearly maxed building space and carrying weight at the cost of sluggish handling. The Pathmaker is an agile SUV with limited interior floor space and lower roof load capacity. The Classic is a balanced middle-ground option. The Schoolie, available via DLC, offers similar storage to the Big One with a different layout.

Traveling Iceland's Highlands in a 4x4 motorhome: routes and regulations

Iceland's Highlands, covering about 40% of the country, are accessible only in summer via unpaved F-roads, which legally require a 4x4 vehicle. Tourists rent 4x4 motorhomes to explore this region, as standard camper vans are not permitted on these tracks. Key routes include the F35 (Kjölur) and the more challenging F26 (Sprengisandur), leading to destinations like Landmannalaugar and Þórsmörk.
