Used campers remain in demand

In Switzerland, the 'Rencar' project has been launched — a motorhome converted into a mobile meeting and counseling point for marginalized groups. The initiative started on March 1, 2012, in the cantons of Jura and Bernese Jura. The motorhome will operate six days a week, parking at hospitals, prisons, and public spaces. The project is funded by the church community but does not involve religious proselytism.

On Tuesday evening on Via Massagno in Canobbio, a motorhome rear-ended a car. The accident caused significant traffic disruptions towards the Civico hospital and Capriasca.

In 2025, campsites in Central Switzerland recorded over 547,000 overnight stays, a new record. The number has doubled in ten years. Most guests now come from abroad, indicating sustained growth in tourism since the pandemic.

The St. Gallen cantonal police are hosting a 'Camper Day' at the Oberbüren police station. Motorhome owners can have their vehicle's unladen weight checked for free to determine the actual remaining payload. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with experts from traffic police, road traffic authority, TCS, and Wohnmobilland Schweiz.
