Localised production and intense competition have cut motorhome costs roughly in half. Where imported chassis and components once pushed prices into the hundreds of thousands of yuan, a full set of parts can now be sourced within a single county in Shandong province. Nearly new used motorhomes are listed at 80,000 yuan but attract no buyers, as the market has concluded that a motorhome is a consumer good, not an investment, and depreciates immediately after purchase. Motorhomes for accompanying children's schooling and low-cost living are becoming a new necessity, but parking, water, electricity and waste disposal remain problematic.
