OMC's New Compact Camper: 'Caravan Galaxy'
Japanese company OMC has launched a compact camper van called 'Caravan Galaxy' (also referred to as 'Galaxy'). The model is based on a Nissan Caravan Super Long (some sources say Toyota Hiace). It features a bunk bed (upper 1900×650 mm, lower 1900×700 mm), a kitchen with sink, microwave, and 40 L fridge, foldable seats, portable toilet, and air conditioning. Capacity is up to 6 people while driving, with a dedicated lounge area for a couple. The camper is designed for couples traveling with pets.
A Couple's Journey Across Japan
A couple traveled to all 47 Japanese prefectures in a self-converted Suzuki Every light van from July 2022 to December 2023 (17 months). They shared their gear selection criteria: only essentials, plastic items, foldable and affordable. The list includes a 15 L portable fridge, EcoFlowⓘ River Pro 720 Wh, two Renogy 100 W solar panels, kitchen utensils, tools, and seasonal bedding. To save space, they used a roof rack and a storage system grouping items by usage time.
Solving the Sleep Problem on the Road
A camper based on a light van has also been introduced to address the common issue of sudden drowsiness during travel. The model allows for quick setup of a sleeping area without needing to find a special parking spot.
