On July 30, 2026, at around 12:30, a serious accident occurred on the A23 near Wacken (northbound). According to preliminary information, the driver of a light-colored car began overtaking the motorhome, did not notice an approaching Kia, lost control and crashed at high speed into the motorhome driven by a 49-year-old woman from North Frisia; her daughters, aged 9 and 12, were inside.
The motorhome broke through the guardrail, hit a tree and was completely destroyed on the roadside. The three occupants of the motorhome suffered minor injuries and were rescued by witnesses. The at-fault driver fled the scene in a white car. The A23 between Schönefeld and Hanau-Hadermarschen was fully closed, and a rescue helicopter was deployed. Police are searching for the suspect.
