A forest fire on the Atlantic coast near Bordeaux has forced the evacuation of thousands of tourists. The fire, which broke out in the morning in the commune of Saumos, has spread over 800 hectares. The prefect of the Gironde department ordered the evacuation of about 700 residents from two districts of Le Porge and the 'La Grigne' campsite with 3,500 holidaymakers, who were directed to the nearby resort of Lacanau. A beach in Le Porge with around 600 vehicles was also evacuated. The fire is being fought by 500 firefighters, four water-bomber aircraft and 150 vehicles; no injuries have been reported.
