Two separate camper arson incidents in US: charges filed in Missouri and Indiana

A 1927 Studebaker EQ Special Six has been converted into a motorhome after a seven-year restoration completed in 2015. The vehicle now features a 460 cubic inch V8 engine from a 1984 Ford F-350, a C3 automatic transmission, power steering from a 1984 Thunderbird, and front disc brakes. The exterior is yellow with blue stripes. It measures 22 feet long, 8 feet high, and weighs about 6,100 pounds. Inside, the cab has two gray vinyl captain's chairs, power windows, cruise control, and a Kenwood Bluetooth stereo. The living area includes a sofa bed, two 10-gallon water tanks, a water heater, a Unique Appliances refrigerator, and a flat-screen TV. The camper is for sale with restoration photos and an Indiana title.

A family in South Dakota, USA, bought a caravan in 2019 to keep monthly costs low. Over six years, they saved enough to build their own house. In 2026, they moved into a 334 sq m home that cost $410,000 to construct. By managing the project themselves, they saved between $200,000 and $350,000 compared to hiring contractors.

Wilson & Co. RV, which started with two remodeled campers, has opened its second dealership in Hood County, Texas. The new location is at 100 Happy. The grand opening took place on July 25, 2026.

Jason and Nicole Earls have restored the historic Bear Creek Cabins and RV park on U.S. Highway 101 in Washington state. The couple removed a 30-yard dumpster of debris, replaced furniture and bedding, and repaired infrastructure. Cabins now offer modern amenities, and the RV park provides partial and full hook-up sites. The former restaurant will remain closed for 4–5 years until funding for a major renovation is secured.

On July 16, U.S. Representative Rudy Yakym, Winnebago Industries' Chad Reece, and Genesis Products' Jon Wenger testified before the USITC in the final phase of an antidumping and countervailing duty investigation on hardwood plywood from China, Indonesia, and Vietnam. They argued that ultra-thin tropical plywood from Indonesia does not compete with U.S.-produced hardwood plywood. The material, known as lauan plywood, is a critical input for RV sidewalls and roofs, with no domestic alternatives offering the same properties. The USITC is expected to vote on August 19.

At their July 15 meeting, the Marthasville Board of Aldermen voted not to revisit a proposal for an RV park at Wessel Park. Mayor David Lange said Missouri DNR officials still support the project, but bids received in June ranged from $1.29 million to $1.82 million, far exceeding the original budget. Alderman Leo Meyer, who moved to halt preliminary work last month, maintained his opposition. The city received a $375,000 LWCF matching grant in August 2025, but the plan was scaled down from 21 RV sites to three. Mayor Lange argued that abandoning the project forfeits the grant, but aldermen Meyer and Chris DeVore were not persuaded.
