Authorities in Cyprus, assisted by police, removed illegally placed caravans and structures from a stretch of coast in Larnaca near the yacht club. The operation took place early on Tuesday, July 21, after the interior minister issued an ultimatum. Four caravans were seized, and large stones were placed at the beach entrance to prevent the return of large vehicles.
According to sources, the action was prompted by complaints about noise, rubbish, and unsanitary conditions, as well as restricted public access to the beach. A similar operation is expected on a neighbouring beach where unauthorised wooden huts were built. One source notes that the Larnaca municipality had previously asked a district official to intervene under the beach protection law, but the official refused, citing private ownership of the plot. A similar cleanup was carried out at the same location in 2024.
