A fire at a holiday park on Chinderah Bay Drive in Chinderah, New South Wales, destroyed two caravans and damaged two others. More than 40 people, including elderly residents, were evacuated; no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) has urged residents to install working smoke alarms in caravans and holiday accommodations. The agency reminds that legislation requires a working alarm in every home and caravan, as well as in annexes used for sleeping, and that alarms have a 10-year lifespan. It also notes that 45% of homes that survived a major fire last year lacked a working alarm.
