In late May, three French communes reported caravans of travellers settling on municipal football fields.
In Saint-Pantaléon-de-Larche (Corrèze), on the evening of 24 May, about 50 caravans occupied areas near the stadium. Mayor Eddy Marcos called it an unlawful intrusion and filed a complaint. Around 100 more caravans are expected. Residents claim they had notified authorities of their arrival in winter but received no response.
In Saint-Germain-Lespinasse, since Sunday 24 May, the football pitch has been occupied by about a hundred caravans. Mayor Christophe Lopen said the municipality "tolerates this installation" and offered an alternative site in Mablie with 82 spaces, but travellers refused due to its poor condition. According to the town hall, the caravans are to leave by the end of the week.
In Saint-Lattier, about 15 caravans settled on the training pitch of the municipal stadium. Local authorities and the gendarmerie negotiated, and the temporary residents committed to leaving within two weeks and not damaging the facility.
