The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a propane explosion in a converted bus used as an RV. The incident occurred on July 14 at approximately 3 p.m. at 253 North Street in Ellsworth. The explosion originated inside a cabinet beneath the propane range; the likely ignition source was the electric compressor motor of a refrigerator. The sole occupant suffered serious burns and was taken to Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital. The exact source of the propane leak has not been determined, and the investigation is ongoing.
