In late July, France saw a series of illegal encampments by travelers and Roma people. In Rue (Somme) on July 24, over 300 caravans occupied the Frère-Caudron stadium despite gendarmerie attempts to block access roads. A similar incident occurred in 2019, after which the stadium was fenced, but that did not prevent the new occupation.
In Guérande (Loire-Atlantique) on July 24, about 120 caravans tried to settle on private land in the Villejames area, severely disrupting traffic on the D774 road from 3 p.m. Earlier, on July 19, more than 150 caravans had already illegally settled in several villages of the commune.
In the Charente-Maritime department, in Nieul-sur-Mer and Lagord, new cases were recorded: about 30 caravans occupied the Grand Large stadium field, while a group from Lyon entered the Cap Aunis stadium, damaging the barrier. Mayors filed complaints and initiated eviction procedures; the travelers committed to leaving within 10–15 days.
