On the evening of May 20, around 160 caravans with the same number of tractors occupied a field near La Rochelle airport, opposite the Laleu helicopter base. The land belongs to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Charente-Maritime; entry was gained through broken gates.
The group had been expelled from Périgny in mid-April and temporarily housed in Chef-de-Baie, but left the site early. Authorities have begun eviction proceedings, with departure scheduled for May 31. After that, the season of "grands passages" (150–200 caravans) begins, for which the La Rochelle agglomeration provides only one site in Sainte-Soulle in 2025.
