On July 26, about 80 caravans of travelers occupied two of the three municipal fields in the Saint-Menet district of Marseille, belonging to the Marseille Rugby Méditerranée club. Club president Augustin Marie said this is the sixth or seventh time in recent years, and last year's invasions forced him to put four employees on unpaid leave for three months. The club has had to suspend training.
Police recorded the illegal occupation, and the Marseille city hall plans to go to court to obtain an eviction order. The travelers say they notified the prefecture and the metropolis but received no response, citing the lack of legally required transit areas.
Separately, on July 24, 2026, a group of travelers attempted to illegally place about 280 caravans on a field in the commune of Guérande (Loire-Atlantique). After several attempts to enter various sites, the gendarmerie intervened to prevent the settlement. The plot belongs to the city of Guérande.
